Prayer Resource:
Spiritual and Liturgical Life Reflection Questions
Because the synod is the major activity going on in our parish and diocese at present, the prayer resource offered over these weeks of Advent will be taken directly from the synod reflection booklets. Over Advent and the octave of Christmas, we will hit all five of the Mission-related themes that our synod touches upon. This means that if you spend some time in prayerful reflection with the reflection questions shared over these five weeks, you'll be spiritually ready to participate in our January 5th Synod Session.
This week, I encourage you to spend pray with these questions related to Vocations in our Parish:
- Is missionary discipleship or responding to God's loving invitations in our life preached at my parish?
- What youth or young adult groups do we have that make space for young people to think about their future in the context of God's plan for their lives?
- How often are weddings celebrated at our parish? Anniversary Masses or celebrations?
- How does our parish support married couples and families in their vocations?
- Does our parish actively promote vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life? How do we do that?
- How many permanent deacons or priests have been ordained from our parish in the last 10 years?
- How many women and men from our parish have entered religious life in the last 10 years?
And for prayer about Vocation in your personal life:
- What is my purpose? How much is God a part of my consideration of my purpose? Have I considered making my life a gift for others?
- How am I living my vocation (to discipleship, to a particular state of life, and in the world?)
- How do I best live out my vocation so that it is a witness to others? Is it joyful?
- Who are models I look up to in particular vocations-- priests, religious, married couples, chaste singles (consecrated or not)?
- How am I encouraging others to respond to their vocation?
- How can we help young people to hear the voice of God, especially in our 'noisy' culture?
- Do I find myself reluctant to pursue, explore, or encourage others particularly to vocations of priesthood or religious life? If so, where does that come from, and what are the roots of my hesitation?
- How do I see/notice/observe the beauty in the complementarity of vocations present in the Church around us? How do the various vocations support, fortify, and witness to one another?
- How do we support our priests?
Prayer Intentions:
We pray for forgiveness and reconciliation in families that our broken or wounded.
